Jailed refugee journalist Fawad gets bail tomorrow, says wife

SHAH ALAM : Refugee journalist who resurfaced in Pakistani jail six months after going missing in Malaysia is expected to be granted bail by the Islamabad High Court tomorrow.

His wife that goes by the name Syeeda said her husband Syed Fawad Ali Shah will be released on March 13.

"The Islamabad High Court has said Fawad will be released on bail tomorrow," she told Sinar Daily.

Eventhough, she is still in fear of her and her husband's fate in Pakistan but she said: "at least he has been granted bail".

Syeeda, a Pakistani was in Malaysia last November to locate her husband who went missing on Aug 23, last year.

She last spoke to him on Aug 22 as Fawad has been living in exile in Malaysia since 2011 and Syeeda in Pakistan.

After failing to locate her husband, she left to Pakistan in January. A month later she received a phone call to say her husband was in a Pakistani prison.

She finally met him on Feb 9 and was shocked to see him momentarily. During a second visit nn Feb 21, Syeeda said Fawad's health and mental condition was "not good with lots of black marks on his face."

Fawad, a journalist was accused of posting "defamation", "false and fake information" online.

In Putrajaya, immigration officers had said the Pakistani authorities said Fawad was a wanted police officer for disciplinary proceedings.

However, Syeeda had denied he was in the police force.
