SHAH ALAM - Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is more powerful now with the line of winners in the Umno wings election, experts say.

This is because Zahid has a great team of advisors with strategies to overcome his competitors said Universiti Putra Malaysia political expert Datuk Professor Dr Jayum Anak Jawan.

"Yes, of course, Zahid is now even more powerful than ever with all his men and women winning the Umno polls.

"But he is a powerful man in a weak party that plays subsivient role in the federal government," he told Sinar Daily.

Jayum further pointed out that the Umno president has a good team of advisors with excellent strategies.

"Zahid has a good team of advisors with great strategies to overcome his competitors in the party elections.

"He has previously removed several possible challengers, and that worked to his advantage," he said.

Echoing Jayum’s views, political analyst Dr Oh Ei Sun said Zahid being powerful might be temporary, as it might change after the state elections.

"For the moment, it would appear that Zahid is omnipotent within Umno.

"But this may soon change after the upcoming state elections," he said.

Meanwhile, political expert Dr Abdul Aziz Azizam from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) added that there is no guarantee that Umno will become a stable party as some of the candidates might not be in favour of the party president.

"From what I can see, the fight is going to be tough.

"Even if the top posts in the Umno wings are won by Zahid's team, there is no guarantee that Umno will become a stronger or more stable party, as many other candidates who contest for different posts may not favour Zahid," he explained.
