Bersatu Armada claims RM5 million donation was legitimate

SHAH ALAM - The RM5 million donation Bersatu received from Bukhari Equity Sdn Bhd represented legitimate funding, says Bersatu Armada chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.
He claimed the charges towards Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin regarding the funds had elements of selective prosecution.
"The donation was channeled through legitimate banking systems. This accusation clearly represented selective prosecution in politics," he said, as quoted by The Star on Monday.
Muhyiddin was charged under Section 4(1)(b) read together with Section 87(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA).
The charge was based on allegations that RM5 million the party received from Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd which were proceeds from unlawful activities and transferred into the party's AmBank account.
Muhyiddin pleaded not guilty to several charges of corruption and money laundering at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.
He was charged of four counts of using his position to gain bribes of RM232.5 million and two money laundering charges involving RM195 million.
The charges followed Section 23(1) of the 2009 MACC Act and the 2001 AMLATFPUAA.
