MELAKA - A father of four is determined to walk more than 100 kilometers from Selangor to Melaka as a challenge to improve his mental and physical health.

Former chef Mohamad Sukerie Hasan, 28, said that over the past few years, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, he was tested with various challenges including being forced to sell the restaurant that was the main source of his family's income.

Sukerie, who lives in Puchong, Selangor, said that apart from losing his job, he also had to sell his car and other assets to survive.

He said that by walking for two days to Melaka, he can reflect on himself as well as indirectly promote a healthy lifestyle and relieve stress.

"At that time, in order to pay the workers' salary, I was willing to sell whatever property I owned and lived in my siblings' house in a flat.

"I used walking as a way to reduce the stress I was feeling," he said when contacted here today.

The Perak-born added that he was also tested with a sick child until his daughter had eventually passed away, while his wife, who was pregnant then, had a miscarriage.

He said stress can cause depression and it is something that should not be taken lightly and he also mentioned that sports activities can help recover mental and physical health.
