KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia is ready to provide technical assistance to Commonwealth countries in need, said Malaysia's Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.

Zambry said this while attending the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) Meeting at Marlborough House, London.

"I have emphasised that it is inappropriate for a 'one size fits all' approach to be used in encouraging countries to adopt the principles of democracy, the rule of law and in promoting and protecting human rights.

"Malaysia is also ready to provide technical assistance to Commonwealth countries in need," said Zambry in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.

The meeting also discussed issues of mutual interest, the situation of various Commonwealth member countries, and the status of Zimbabwe's application to rejoin the Commonwealth.

The CMAG was established in 1995 to safeguard Commonwealth's core principles and values. The group currently consists of Barbados, Belize, Canada, Ghana, Malaysia, Malta, Mauritius, Rwanda, and Samoa. Malaysia was appointed as a member of CMAG in 2018.

Zambry was in London to lead the Malaysian delegation to participate in three important Commonwealth events in London, United Kingdom, from Monday (March 13) to Wednesday (March 15). - BERNAMA
