KUALA LUMPUR - Contrary to earlier assurance, the Umno election results will unlikely be known by tonight.

Supreme Council candidate Isham Jalil told the press that the counting of ballots is still ongoing and is expected to end sometime at 3am.

“I cannot promise exactly what time,” he told media at Putra World Trade Centre following a poser on the vice-presidential election result.

Earlier today, Umno information chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the Umno election results will be known by midnight.

In the vice presidential race, two new contenders for the posts are leading the electoral bout at press time.

They are Pahang Umno chief Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Titiwangsa MP Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

While both are seasoned Umno leaders, this was their first bid for the vice president post.

At press time, Wan Rosdy garnered the most votes at 77 votes whereas Johari — who was a former supreme council member — secured 61 votes.

Old timer Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin seemed to be able to defend his incumbent seat, bagging 72 votes.
