JOHOR BAHRU - The Johor Bahru Umno division election on Saturday was postponed and suspended.

Johor Bahru division Umno chairman, Azmi Samin said the decision was made after allegations that there were more votes than the number of delegations present.

"This decision is final and we will wait for further instructions from the division's election committee (JPU).

"This decision was made because the number of delegates who registered to vote this morning was 523 but the number of ballots counted earlier reached 590.

"So we will leave it to the central Umno JPU for investigation before any decision regarding re-election," he added.

He said this when announcing the postponement and suspension after the vote counting was concluded at 10.15 pm.

Meanwhile, the division's election committee (JPU) chairman Sonawan Mad Som said mistakes might have occurred during the registration process as he believed no one in the committee would commit such misconduct.

"When an estimate is made, there is indeed a lot of difference; if it's only five or six votes, I'm not surprised, but this is up to 30, 40 pieces, so I'm surprised because we really took care of the process.

"I dare to say that none of our officers did this nonsense," he said.

It is understood that the incident happened for the first time in the history of the Umno Johor Bahru division.
