KUALA LUMPUR - Almost 30 per cent or 54 new faces were elected as Umno division chiefs in the recent party election.

Umno Election Committee chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Ab Samad said this showed a dynamic change towards the party internally as the number involved almost all divisions throughout the country except for Sabah.

"I must say these changes showed how dynamic Umno has become now. "As we can now see, the Federal Territories have six new faces, Malacca (three), Kedah (five), Penang (two), Kelantan (five), Negeri Sembilan (two), Pahang (five), Johor (10), Perak (four), Selangor (six), Perlis (three), and Terengganu (three)," he said during the Umno election results press conference at Dato’ Onn Tower, here on Saturday.

Among the new faces for the division chiefs were Umno secretary general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan (Pontian) and Umno youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh (Jasin).

Others were former Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Fathul Bari Mat Jahya (Kangar), Kelantan Umno youth chief Noor Hariri Mohd Nor (Pasir Mas) and Paya Besar MP Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah (Paya Besar).

Also elected were former Pasir Salak Umno division deputy chief Khairul Azwan Harun (Pasir Salak) and former Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Mohd Razlan Muhammad Rafii (Seputeh).

Shahrir in the press conference officially announced Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, Federal Territories Umno chairman Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin won for the Umno vice president post.

The Umno permanent chairman post was won by Tan Sri Badruddin Aminuddin while the deputy was Datuk Seri Abdul Fattah Abdullah.
