KUALA LUMPUR - Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad described the Unity government as being afraid of its own shadow based on its actions including canceling the ‘Malay Proclamation’ gathering.

He claimed that this is a clear indication that the people's dissatisfaction is seen as a form of threat.

"The current government is afraid of its own shadow. Come to think of it, why should they be afraid of me? I am a good person, and I lost badly in the last election.

"We see many challenges now; the media is blocked, nothing bad about the government can be printed. If you read the newspaper, you would think this government is the best in the world, when in fact it does not meet the needs of the people, especially the Malays.

"They don't care what happens to the Malays, what they are chanting is that this is a multiracial country and the best race will win.

"We want the public to be informed about what is actually happening in the country. If the government thinks what we say is not true, please prove it," he said in a special press conference on Sunday.

The Malay Proclamation Assembly was organised by Secretariat Tanah Air and was initially scheduled for Sunday but was cancelled after three venue changes.

Dr Mahathir further said that the government portrayed themselves as heroes against corruption, but the war (fight against corruption) launched was only aimed specifically at the opposing party. - Awani
