Shahaniza surprised over her top 10 ranking at Umno Supreme Council polls

MARAN - The newly-appointed Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Shahaniza Shamsuddin is in disbelief after securing Umno Surpreme Council seat at her first attempt.

“I did not think that my first attempt would see me as in the top 10," she said after winning the party’s supreme council position for the 2023-2026 term.

There were over 90 contenders for 25 seats.

Other that the supreme council seat, the former Kuala Sentul State Assemblyman also defended here Umno Maran division chief position for a second term.

"This is a big trust and responsibility and needs to be carried out as best as possible besides being aware of the high expectations of the voters placed on me," she told Sinar.

She further shared her ideas to boost the party.

Among them are to establish Sekolah Umno to create awareness among the young and to overcome perception about Umno being a corrupt party.

Apart from Shahaniza, Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin, Datuk Rosni Sohar, Datuk Suraya Yaacob, Datuk Zahida Zarik Khan, Datuk Mastura Mohd Yazid and Julie Sabran were also competing for the position.
