Transport Ministry plans to increase intermediate busses in KL

SHAH ALAM - The Transport Ministry is planning to increase the number of intermediate buses as soon as possible to overcome the lack of public transport in Kuala Lumpur.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the ministry has held discussions with Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) and the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) to ensure that the matter can be expedited.
"The effort to add these buses is certainly on our agenda, and this evening (Monday) in the post cabinet meeting this matter was also discussed, and even Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed me to look into the problem.
"However, the implementation will be discussed in detail first, whether it is necessary to appoint a private operator or otherwise," he said during a question-and-answer session with the audience during the Sinar's Town Hall Rakyat Programme on Monday.
Anthony also admitted that there are only about 1,000 buses in Kuala Lumpur, compared to 4,000 to 5,000 buses in Singapore operating every day.
