SHAH ALAM - Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been admitted to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) for the past few days, believed to be due to a lung infection.

According to a MalaysiaGazette report, sources revealed that the former Pekan MP was initially hospitalised after contracting influenza.

"Further examination found that he had a lung infection in addition to having to undergo several treatment procedures.

"Only the immediate family knows, but I'm not sure how the media got hold of this. We hope him well," he said.

The source also said that Najib underwent the same treatment at HKL as other prisoners under the Prisons Act 2000.

In addition, sources also refused to reveal more details about the matter, but it is understood that Najib has now returned to prison after undergoing a follow-up treatment.

Previously, Najib was hospitalised for suffering from a chronic ulcer last year.

Najib began serving his prison sentence on Aug 23 last after the Federal Court upheld the conviction and 12-year prison sentence and RM210 million fine he faced in the RM42 million fund embezzlement case belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd.
