SHAH ALAM - Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today that Umno has abandoned its original struggle and now all that's left is to save its leaders from being involved in crime.

The statesman also questioned Umno's basic struggle, which has become a tool for the interests of the party leaders.

"Has Umno become a tool for their leaders' interests, and is this a struggle for Umno?" "Umno has lost its original struggle. The Umno political party no longer exists," he said in his latest Facebook post today.

Dr Mahathir said this following the Umno Supreme Council's (MKT) concerns about the continuous racial and religious sentiments play and also asked the government to take stern action to curb it as it could damage the country's harmony.

The council's stance was in violation of Article 3.3 of the Umno Constitution, which states that Umno is a party that defends the interests of Malay Kings, Malays, Bumiputeras, Sabah natives, and Orang Asli, as well as matters covered by Article 153 of the Federal Constitution, he added.

According to the former Umno president, the Malays who are planning a proclamation on the issues they face are also lying.

"Proclamations that make no mention of other races are considered racist." "If Malays are not allowed to discuss their own problems, other races, or Islamic teachings, then their freedom of speech is gone," he explained.
