JASIN - Melaka may witness the formation of a unity government, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Speaking at the ‘Santunan Kasih Ramadan’ programme at the Ar-Rahman Mosque in Kampung Pulai, Serkam, here today, Zahid, who is also Umno president said this was in line with the formation of the government at the Federal level.

"InsyaAllah, in the state of Melaka, a Madani (unity) government has not been formed... but its heading towards that direction," he said at the ceremony, which was also attended by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali and Melaka Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

He said the change in the country's political landscape would also be witnessed in the six states where state elections are due soon, namely Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

In the Melaka State Election which took place in Nov 2021, BN managed to obtain a two-thirds majority, winning 21 of the total 28 seats in the state assembly, and at present, Melaka is fully governed by BN.

At the ceremony, Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, presented donations to eight tahfiz centres.

He also handed over grants from the Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (Risda) worth RM60,000 to five recipients. - BERNAMA
