MUAR - Melaka will not only get a new chief minister, the state government exco line up will also be restructured.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the appointment of the new state exco's will be done in the spirit of unity.

"We have held discussions, as the swearing-in ceremony will be held tomorrow evening, surely it would be followed by the restructure of the Melaka exco line-up.

"I have yet to receive a list of names from the new Melaka chief minister, but I am confident that the Unity Government spirit that exists at the national level can be translated to Melaka," he said in a press conference held after a Ramadan Charity event at Masjid Jamek Kampung Sungai Gersik Sungai Balang yesterday.

Also present were Umno vice president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

Zahid, who is also the Rural and Regional Development Minister said he hoped that the unity government concept could be used in the six states that will be holding their state elections soon.

"We hope the same thing will happen in the six states namely Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Penang, Terengganu, Kedah and Kelantan.

"Therefore, we must allow for good 'optics and narrative' and spread the word about forming unity governments at the state level," he said.

On March 27, Zahid hinted that there will be a change in the administrative structure of the state government through an establishment of a unity government in Melaka.

The Umno president, on Wednesday, confirmed that the Lendu assemblyman Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali had resigned as Melaka chief minister.

The swearing-in ceremony of the new Melaka chief minister will be held at 3pm today.

Yesterday, the state secretary Datuk Wira Zaidi Johari said the ceremony will take place at Dewan Sri Utama, Tuan Yang Terutama (TYT) Yang di-Pertua Negeri Melaka office at Seri Negeri Complex.
