Umno Youth urges govt to set up RCI to investigate Najib's case

SHAH ALAM - Umno Youth has urged the government to set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to give due justice to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Its chief Dr Akmal Saleh said the matter took into account the dissenting judgement by Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Datuk Abdul Rahman Sebli who chaired a five-member bench in Najib's review application over the misappropriation of funds belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd.

"Agreeing with the court's decision means respecting the decision and not taking it to the streets blindly because that is what Najib always emphasised when he met with the Umno Youth throughout Malaysia.

"But that does not mean that we agree with what has been decided," he said in a Facebook post, today.

Yesterday, the Federal Court in a 4-1 majority decision dismissed the former Umno president's bid to review his conviction and sentence in the case.

The majority decision came from Federal Court judges Datuk Vernon Ong Lam Kiat, Datuk Rhodzariah Bujang and Datuk Nordin Hassan as well as Court of Appeal judge Datuk Abu Bakar Jais on grounds that there was no merit in the application.

Abdul Rahman, who was the sole dissenting judge held that it was unfair for Najib after his counsel Datuk Hisyam Teh Poh Teik did not submit in the final appeal as he was not prepared to do so after taking the case at the last minute.
