Taxi, e-hailing vehicles age limit extended to 15 years

PUTRAJAYA - The age limit for the use of taxi and e-hailing vehicles in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan has been increased to 15 years.

In a statement, The Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) said the extension was in line with the transport ministry’s intention to sustain the taxi and e-hailing industry towards improving the country's transport system.

"The age limit extension for taxis and e-hailing applies to both classes in West Malaysia and for e-hailing vehicles in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan," the agency said in the statement

The agency said the conditions were among others, that the vehicles reach the maximum age limit starting Jan 1, 2023.

The vehicles must also comply with and pass all mandatory periodical inspections by Puspakom and fulfil other operating conditions.

"Other operational conditions were set to ensure vehicle safety levels, user comfort and the a positive image of the industry," it said.

Taxi and e-hailing industry players were reminded to increase the quaility of their services.
