Government to discuss need to establish Chinese investment special committee tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR - The government will discuss the need to establish a special committee to monitor Chinese investments revenue reports

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the matter will be discussed in the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

"We will discuss it tomorrow and the follow-up measures whether the special committee is needed, it will be decided tomorrow.

"The project is being monitored by the International Trade and Industry Ministry, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) and Matrik which I think is capable of carrying it out as the preparations made by them were satisfactory," he said during the minister question and answer session in Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday.

Anwar was answering an additional question from Fong Kui Lun (DAP-Bukit Bintang) regarding the special committee's establishment to monitor Chinese investors following Anwar's recent visit to China.

The Tambun MP informed the house of the positive results he had obtained from an economic and investment standpoint following his visit including the investment commitment of RM170 billion.

He said several memorandums of understanding had been signed with 12 involving the service sector, 11 in the manufacturing sector and four in the infrastructure sector.
