ALOR GAJAH - Football fans in Melaka may soon be able to cheer their own players in the Malaysian Super League again if efforts to lift the gloom surrounding Melaka United Football Club (MUFC) becomes a reality.

New Melaka chief minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said efforts are underway to study the possibility of returning to the Malaysian Super League soon, including from the legal aspects.

MUFC was penalised and dropped from the 2023 Super League season after their application for licence to play in the league was rejected for allegedly failing to settle the salaries of players and officials.

"I am not giving any guarentee but I am looking at the MUFC issue and studying the matter. Naturally we want to revive the situation to ensure the team returns to the league.

"I will take the opportunity to revive MUFC, what is certain is that the team will return and see action like before. Maybe it will take some time," he told reporters at the ‘Tautan Kasih 2023’ programme in Universiti Melaka, here today.

Last September, MUFC had issued a statement that the team was dropped from the Malaysia Cup competition after failing to settle the outstanding wages of players and officials. - BERNAMA
