PAPAR - Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi wants the previously suggested calm to the political situation in Sabah to continue until the next state election.

He said the unity government at federal level and Sabah were closely interconnected and not only translated through the allocations Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had announced, but are also important in the relationship between parties that support the unity government, especially in this state.

"We used to be or are in a calm phase. We continue to aim to create this calm political situation between various parties in Sabah.

"For Umno, I have told my Sabah Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) friends not to do anything that may upset the feelings or hurt other parties.

"There are several steps of solutions and we are looking for the best method to maintain the Sabah government until the next state election," he told reporters while attending the Sabah Rural and Regional Development Ministry Santunan Kasih Ramadan event held at Masjid Kampung Benoni, here, today.

The Deputy Prime Minister however, hoped that the position would be maintained as agreed.

"This is our resolve, of what we and them had signed for and it should be maintained.

"But at the same time, we also hope that the positions, either in government-linked companies (GLCs), local governments or village heads should be maintained as agreed and we don't want any changes due to matters that become a sticking point between the Peninsular and Sabah," he said.
