Husband murders wife with hammer over debts, financial issues

KUALA TERENGGANU - Debt and financial issues were the reasons for the husband to beat his wife to death with a hammer in Kampung Besol, Bukit Besi at Dungun last Wednesday.
Dungun district police chief superintendent Baharudin Abdullah said this was learned in the investigation of the husband, who was remanded a day after the incident.
"The case is still being investigated, and the suspect is still on remand. Police have identified that the cause for the husband to act that way was because of financial issues faced by the family, including the debt that needed to be settled," he said when contacted by Sinar Harian on Monday. He said the 32-year-old suspect was investigated for murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Baharuddin said the remand order that should end on Wednesday will likely be extended.
"We will see (first) on Wednesday; the remand may be continued," he said.
The carpenter was remanded on Thursday for seven days to aid investigations into the murder of his wife, Rubiah Sabtu, 41.
Magistrate Noradila Ab Latif in the Dungun magistrate’s court issued the remand order, which started on Thursday (April 6) and will end on Wednesday (April 12).
The woman was beaten by her husband using a metal hammer on Wednesday around 8am.
She had just returned from sending her child to school and was declared dead at the scene due to injuries on her face and head.
