SHAH ALAM - Pakatan Harapan (PH) and PKR will collapse with BN if the former prime minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Umno president, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, are freed from court charges.

Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim said the issue involving Najib’s royal pardon and Zahid’s delayed case in Kuala Lumpur High Court would have a negative effect on the unity government’s image, led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said the developments that occurred in the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Monday were frightening and worrisome.

"It seems the role of the Attorney-General (AG) is in both courts. First, the Attorney-General took the position in pardoning Najib’s under Article 42(5) of the Federal Constitution that the Pardon Board chaired by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong should include the AG.

"Article 42(9) states the Pardon Board shall consider any written opinion that may have been submitted by the AG.

"Under Article 42 of the Federal Constitution, it clearly states and defines the power the Yang di-Pertuan Agong holds and is subject to under Article 42(4)(b) that the power of the Agong is exercised in accordance with the advice of the Pardon Board in accordance with Clause (5) of Article 42," he said in a Facebook post on Monday.

Hassan said the AG’s powers to drop the 47 charges against Zahid are almost absolute under Article 145(3) of the Federal Constitution.

He said it was dangerous and worrying for those who crave justice, transparency, and truthfulness.

"There may be a possibility of an unwanted scenario where Najib is given a royal pardon and the 47 charges against Zahid are dropped, thus making these two major issues a catastrophe for the government under Anwar’s leadership.

"The prime minister must be reminded that the PH and PKR coalition will be rejected by the people in the state elections soon.

"PH and PKR will be rejected in the next general election (GE); if that happens, don’t say I didn’t remind you," he said.
