Ramadan is a time for Muslims to contemplate and reflect on life and our spiritual wellbeing.

It is also an opportunity for many of us to enjoy a variety of food and delicacies be it from the bazaars, at the buffets as well as at your local mosque and surau.

Unfortunately, there is a downside to these feasting - food waste. It is a seasonal phenomenon that is expected to last till end of Syawal as Malaysians hold open houses to keep the Raya spirit alive.

This year’s Ramadan alone saw 18, 276.89kg of food and drinks being saved via the MySaveFood @ Ramadan 2023 initiatives nationwide, while tonnes more went straight to the landfills causing damage to the environment.

On this month’s Wacana English Edition, join our host Meor Addelan and our panels of experts as we discuss food wastage in the month of Ramadan and Syawal and its impact to the environment.
