KOTA BHARU - The Kelantan police will deploy more than 500 of its personnel during the eight-day Op Selamat road safety campaign in Gua Musang beginning April 20.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said the number included the deployment of 254 traffic policemen to control the anticipated traffic congestion.

"This year, we will focus more on traffic flow in Gua Musang due to the main road being temporarily closed for repair work.

"We expect this road to be heavily congested because Kelantan folks will take the opportunity to return to their hometowns for the Aidilfitri celebration after several years of COVID-19 restrictions," he told reporters at the breaking of fast at the Kelantan Police Contingent headquarters here last night.

Muhamad Zaki said Op Lancar would be held for two days starting today as a preliminary preparation to identify the flow of traffic in Gua Musang.

Through Op Lancar, he said the police would determine the roads that would be closed, diverted or turned into one-way lanes to overcome traffic congestion.

"Only 10 per cent of over 3,000 police personnel would be allowed to take leave during the holidays,” he said. - BERNAMA
