BANGKOK - Malaysia has donated RM50,000 to the Foundation of Islamic Centre of Thailand to support the betterment of the Thai Muslim community.

Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand Datuk Jojie Samuel handed over the donation on behalf of the government to Vice President of the Foundation of Islamic Centre of Thailand, Professor Dr Jaran Maluleem at the centre, yesterday.

Also present were deputy chief of mission at the Malaysia Embassy in Bangkok, Bong Yik Jui and Minister Counsellor, Megat Farez Zuhairin.

Dr Jaran expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the generous donation provided to the Foundation of Islamic Centre Thailand.

"We proposed to allocate the donation towards education initiatives, such as establishing a programme to assist underprivileged Muslim children with their studies.

"We will convene a meeting to discuss the best way to utilise the donation in uplifting Muslim communities,” he told Bernama.

Meanwhile, Jojie expressed hope that the contribution would enhance the works of both the foundation and the Islamic Centre.

In February this year, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who was on two-day official visit to Thailand, performed Friday prayers at the Islamic Centre of Thailand. - BERNAMA
