SHAH ALAM - Malaysia Islamic Development Department (Jakim) confirms that Hershey's brand food products manufactured in Malaysia by Hershey's Malaysia Sdn. Bhd are halal and have a Halal Certification Certificate (SPHM) that is still valid to this day.

Jakim, in a statement today, added that the products from this brand were also certified as halal by the Halal Product Assurance Organisation (BPJPH) of the Religion Ministry of the Republic of Indonesia, which is an overseas halal certification body recognised by Jakim in that country.

"More information on the halal status of the product can be checked via https://www.halal.gov.my/v4/directory/slm_viewdetail.php?comp_code=COMP-20140512-200955&type=C&ty=CO." "Reviews can also be made through the link: https://bpjph.halal.go.id/search/sertifikat?nama_produk=Hershey&nama_pelaku_usaha=&no_sertifikat=&page=1," it said in a statement.

Earlier, there were viral photos and videos on social media involving Hershey's products from abroad, claiming that the products did not hold any halal certification from overseas halal certification bodies recognised by Jakim.

According to Jakim, it is common knowledge that the management and use of raw materials are different depending on the country.

Therefore, prioritise products that have SPHM or halal certification from any overseas halal certification body recognised by Jakim, it added.

The list of certification bodies or overseas halal logos recognised by Jakim can be found at https://www.halal.gov.my/v4/ckfinder/userfiles/files/cb2/CBLIST17March2023.pdf.
