PUTRAJAYA - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said there is a plot to bring down his government. However, he described the effort as lacking a strong foundation.

"The plot does exist, but it lacks a strong foundation. We focus on our work. If there is no plot, what will they do?," he said.

He said this to reporters after launching the 2023 Labour Day celebration at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), today.

Anwar, the Chairman of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition said this when asked to comment on the alleged plot to topple his ruling Unity Government.

On Sunday, Sinar reported that 17 MPs from the Barisan Nasional (BN) and PKR were expected to defect and join the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.

This comes as political parties look to various strategies to face the upcoming state elections in six states to be held by July.

Anwar further said despite various efforts by the opposition, the strong support given by all parties in the government makes it difficult for the opposition to topple the government.

"The important thing is that PH, BN, Sarawak's GPS and Sabah's GRS, including Warisan, these four have clear commitments (to the government)."

"So, we focus on the work (for the people) at this time," he said.
