SHAH ALAM - Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) said the party's rejection of a royal pardon for former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak does not mean that it hates Umno.

Its deputy president, Amira Aisya Abd Aziz, however, said it is worried about the consequences if the pardon is granted to Najib.

"We respect our judicial system and believe the pardon process should be carried out without any interference or prejudice.

"If Najib is pardoned for his offences at all three courts, we will set a worrying precedent for the country.

"Will anyone convicted of stealing and misappropriating public funds receive a pardon after this?" she asked.

Her statement followed Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Puad Zarkashi's comments critiquing Muda for openly rejecting a royal pardon of Najib.

Amira, who is also a Puteri Wangsa assemblyman, said the youth-centred party was established to champion new politics and reject any element of kleptocracy.

"Even in my short tenure as a Johor assemblyman, I have seen many good initiatives and work carried out for the people by the leadership of Umno, especially in Johor.
