Chow unaware of movement to remove him as CM

GEORGETOWN - Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow says he is unaware of any plot to remove him from the post after the upcoming state election.

The Pakatan Harapan chairman said he didn't know if there was any movement and had not read the news report published by a news portal today.

"I haven't read the article yet, and I don't know what was reported... This is news to me.

"I will not answer about it today, but I will when the time comes," he said in a press conference in Komtar, here, today.

Earlier, the Malaysiakini reported about existing pressure to prevent Chow from assuming the chief minister post after the state election.

The movement apparently wanted DAP chairman Lim Guang Eng to return to lead the state government.

The article, without naming anyone, said there were three assemblymen who wanted him to contest the upcoming state election and assume the post of chief minister.

In responding to this, Chow said he doesn't know who the three assemblymen were and that no one has ever expressed or shown dissatisfaction with his administration.

"I don't know who they are... they have never said they are not happy with me," he repeated.

Meanwhile, when asked if Lim still has a chance to become chief minister again if he wins the state election, Chow said that there was an amendment to the State Constitution in 2018 that stated incumbents could not be appointed again if they had served as chief minister for two terms.

He said the amendment was approved when brought to the State Legislative Assembly, and all PH assemblymen had agreed to it.
