SHAH ALAM - Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang explained that the meeting held with the former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was to discuss about the importance of the Malay Muslim unity as the majority in Malaysia's multi-ethnic society.

The Marang MP said that although the former Langkawi MP had a lot of disagreements with Pas, there were still many common points that could be shared when taking into account the duties toward religion, race and country.

"I had a meeting and discussion with Dr Mahathir, a statesman who has been in politics for a very long time and has a lot of experience, since the colonial era until the country had achieved independence.

"In fact, he had also been the prime minister twice.

"Therefore, it is necessary to differentiate the difference between the national spirit formed into an ideology and the national concept that is human nature created by Allah and our role in a community," he told Sinar today.

On Wednesday, Hadi and several top leaders of Pas had signed a declaration in support of the Malay proclamation founded by Dr Mahathir.

Dr Mahathir's assistant Abu Bakar Yahya revealed the matter in a Facebook post yesterday.

In the meantime, Hadi said Pas has called on Malay Muslim leaders to unite their people by placing the political power on the right track.
