Melaka sees rain daily, not prohibiting activities outside classroom

State Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Rahmad Mariman said, however, the ban on activities outdoors or the closing of schools would be enforced when the temperature reaches 35 degrees Celsius or rises to 37 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days.
"It can be said that Melaka experiences rain almost every afternoon and the average temperature recorded is 31 degrees Celsius.
"This means that we see no need to close the school nor prohibit any activities outside the classroom at this point, but it depends on the instruction of the principal or headmaster to consider it (as and when) for the health and safety of the students because the guidelines are already in place,” he said here today.
He was speaking at the Aidilfitri open house organised by the Ayer Molek State Legislative Assembly Development and Coordination Committee (JAPERUN) which was also attended by Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Ali Rustam and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
Meanwhile, Rahmad said students were also allowed to wear sports attire at this point, in addition to recommending that all students drink enough water and to reduce outdoor activities in the case of rising temperatures to avoid the risk of heatstroke.
He also recommended that all students in the state mask up to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in schools following the increase in cases reported earlier. - BERNAMA
