PENDANG - Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu says there could be a political coalition between Pas and DAP given Pas current alignment with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who was once their political enemy.

Due to that, he said Pas has no right to criticise other political coalition because the party also has a record in joining hands with other political parties for the sake of its political survival before.

"Don't fall for the fear induced by Pas towards DAP in the upcoming election. Don't be afraid to vote for Pakatan Harapan (PH). Believe me when I say it's not impossible that Pas president would scream 'DAP is our friend' in the next two or three years," he said at 2023 Kedah Madani lecture at Kubur Panjang, Pendang last night.

Also present was Kedah Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid and Kedah Amanah chairman Datuk Dr Ismail Salleh.

The inconsistency of Pas' stance has been exposed, said Mohamad, commonly know as Mat Sabu, the former Pas deputy president.

This was because, he said the party's recent decision to cooperate with former rival Dr Mahathir by setting aside their political beliefs, reveals Pas' hypocrisy.

"We can see now that Pas is getting chummy with Dr Mahathir with the Malay Proclamation. This is the ideology they fought against before.

"What happened to their previous stance? In reality, Pas will change their stance based on the situation," he said.

In 2008, Pas, DAP and PKR were under Pakatan Rakyat to oppose BN government led by then prime minister. Dr Mahathir.

In 2015, the Pas-DAP political coalition was dissolved when DAP accepted a motion in the 61st Pas Muktamar (annual congress) to sever ties with Pas, leading to the dissolution of Pakatan Rakyat.

Despite this, Mat Sabu pointed out that Pas has no right to criticise other political coalitions because the party has a record of joining hands with other parties for political survival in the past.

"I have to thank them (Pas) for being with Umno in Muafakat Nasional before, now they can't say anything about our alliance with Umno.

"Can you imagine the fatwa they will issue if that never happened? At that time if you support Umno, they will accuse you of apostasy!," he added.

In 2018, Pas and Umno had established Muafakat Nasional to oppose PH who formed the federal government after winning the 14th General Election (GE14).

Meanwhile,Tok Mat said that Pas' attempt to instill fear and religious fanaticism among Muslims in this country has the potential to cause the country's downfall.

"Unfortunately due to their behaviour, there are Muslims who have developed the same fanatical thinking.

"The same fanatical mindset has destroyed many countries such as Sudan, Syria and Iraq but fortunately we have never seen physical fight happening here," he explained.
