KUALA LUMPUR - A local man is arrested for allegedly uploading two statements that are racially provocative and inciteful.

Police secretary Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said the 33-year-old suspect was arrested in a raid in Bagan Serai, Perak, on Monday.

"The individual is believed to have uploaded both racially provocative and inciteful statements that could affect public order.

"We seized a mobile phone and a SIM card the suspect owned," she said in a statement on Tuesday.

Noorsiah said the case was being investigated by the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department Prosecution and Legal Division (D5) Classified Crime Investigation Unit.

"The case was investigated under Section 4 (1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 505 (c) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," she said.

She said the suspect was remanded for three days, starting Tuesday and would end on Thursday, to assist in investigations.

"The public is advised not abuse social media by releasing statements that are humiliating, inciting hatred towards religion, race, or the rulers, among others, which can spark disharmony and break our unity.

"Severe actions will be taken as provided by laws to protect public order and interests," she said.
