LANGKAWI - A six-year-old boy was found driving a car for about 2.5 kilometres before the car skidded and crashed into a lamp post in Jalan Bukit Tangga, Simpang Kenyum, Langkawi, last night.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Shariman Ashari said the police received a distress call on the accident at about 11.15pm.

He said the boy who drove the car suffered a chin injury. He was accompanied by his three-year old brother in the car.

"Investigation found that the accident happened after the boy lost control of the car. He drove the car without his parents' knowledge from their house. The car then crashed into the side of the road at Jalan Bukit Tangga, Langkawi.

"It was also found that at the time of incident, the siblings' father was sleeping. Their mother was with them before she went to the bathroom and when she came out, she found that both her children were missing.

"Investigation is still ongoing to obtain more information. In regards to the scene of the accident, the road was dark and straight," he said in a statement today.

Shariman was commenting on the viral video of a car accident involving a six-year-old boy who drove a car in Langkawi.

He said the front side of the car as well as the bumper were damaged.

In the viral footage, the boy was reportedly driving the car to the store.
