KUALA LUMPUR - The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today launches a hotline to enable the public to lodge any crime-related complaints.

Bukit Aman CID director Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said this was an effort to curb criminal activities from becoming widespread.

"The hotline, at 019-3764763 will be fully managed by the CID Secretariat.

"The hotline is intended to enable the public to send in any complaints, reports or information about any criminal activities, especially gambling, prostitution, gangsterism, human trafficking, smuggling and other syndicate crimes," he told Sinar Harian, today.

Ayob added that the main focus that needed to be emphasised in the CID team was to break any elements of gangsterism that could disturb public peace, human trafficking syndicates, online gambling and secret societies involved in robbery, extortion and vehicle theft activities.

He said CID needed to be one step ahead of criminals or syndicates so that criminal activities could be curbed more effectively.

"All officers and members of the CID need to improve their services to the community, especially in the quality of investigation papers and increasing the prosecution and conviction rate of criminal cases," he said.
