KUALA LUMPUR - Umno President Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi have urged all wings within the party to close ranks to rebuild the party to its former glory.

"Our youth, puteri, women wings, even veterans need to close ranks and work together towards rebuilding and strengthening our party again." Zahid said in his speech in conjunction with the party's 77th anniversary celebration at the World Trade Centre (WTC) Menara Dato Onn here

"In conjunction with the 77th anniversary of our party, I also hope that we strengthen the grassroots leadership and forget old disputes," he said.

The Bagan Datuk MP further stressed that all party members need to believe that the party is still relevant.

"77 years ago, on the same date, Umno united various other parties. Do not forget the history.

" We have gathered here, but in these 7 decades, we have moved in various waves.

"Umno has faced various challenges until we were stuck and lost direction in the 15th election. However, I believe Umno is still relevant," he said.

Umno's 77th anniversary celebration started with Maghrib prayers and the reading of Surah Yassin.

Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan, Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, and Umno supreme council members (MKT) were all in attendance.

This celebration was held simultaneously, involving 12 states, as a platform to strengthen friendship among party members.

The party's anniversary, which is celebrated every year on May 11, is a way for party members to show their support and love for the party.

This celebration is also, among other things, a platform to strengthen the unity of Umno members towards the party and show support for the party's leadership.
