Tun M wants to focus on the 'Malay Proclamation' upon exit from GTA

SHAH ALAM - Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad insisted that there are no issues of him setting aside any Malay political parties, following his move in leaving Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA).

However, the decision was made to focus on the Malay Proclamation movement.

"I feel that if I move on the basis of a political party, there are Malays from other political parties who are not very comfortable supporting the proclamation.

"This proclamation aims to unite Malays across political lines.

"This means that Malays who are also members of Umno, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Amanah, as well as a few who are in DAP, if they share the awareness raised by this proclamation, will also sign it.

"When the Malays can unite and agree with the awareness raised by the Proclamation, then it becomes the responsibility of every party as the proclamation is based on the Malay struggle," he said in a statement on Friday.

He has added that he has not yet decided whether he will be active in any political movements.

"Whether or not I will be active in politics after this is not something I need to think about right now.

"The Malays will lose everything if we do not have awareness if all the parties and groups that fight for the interests of the Malays are not united," he said.

The media reported that Dr Mahathir confirmed that he is no longer with the GTA and holds no position in the movement.

The decision was made after realising that GTA could not function properly and failed to attract voter support, especially during the 15th General Election (GE15) last November.
