Nik Abduh's meeting with Anwar nothing to do with election candidacy

KOTA BHARU - The meeting between former Bachok MP Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, which took place yesterday, is not linked to candidates for the upcoming state elections.

A source said it was casual meeting aimed at welcoming the prime minister to the state.

"Anwar came to our house. So we took the opportunity to meet him.

"The meeting has no connection to the state election. Trust me," the source said when contacted today.

When questioned about the presence of Nik Abduh's brother, Nik Omar, during the meeting, the source said it was merely a coincidence.

"What happened was just a coincidence... when Nik Abduh met Anwar, his brother (Nik Omar) was also there.

"Even if they have disagreements, the bond between the brothers remains strong and will not be enemies. It's normal to make political comments," he said.

Yesterday, Sinar reported that two photos of Nik Abduh 'sitting' with Anwar had gone viral on social media, leading to speculations.

Also present at the meeting was independent preacher Wan Ji Wan Hussin and Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

In the 15th general election (GE15) last year, Pas dropped Nik Abduh as the party's candidate and the previously contested seat was given to Muhamad Shahir Che Sulaiman.

In the past, Nik Abduh and Nik Omar were perceived as having different political inclinations, as they chose different political paths.

Nik Omar's decision to join Amanah caused some uneasiness among Pas leaders.
