KUALA LUMPUR - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has assured that there are not leakages in the Unity Government and promised that Malaysia will be the new economic giant.

Despite the heavy fiscal situation with a large debt of RM1.5 trillion and a high fiscal deficit of 5.5 per cent, he said in just a short time, latest development has shown that in the first quarter of 2023, the economy recorded a 5.6 per cent compared to China’s 4.3 per cent.

"Meanwhile, the labour market growth momentum in the first quarter of 2023 reduced unemployment rates from 3.6 per cent to 3.5 per cent. We see this in the region that also has the lowest inflation.

“For inflation, this country reduced from 3.9 per cent to 3.6 per cent,” he said during his speech at the Unity Government National Convention at the World Trade Centre (WTC) Kuala Lumpur today.

Anwar, who is also Pakatan Harapan Chairman, also reminded all Unity Government members that no matter how great a country was, it will not succeed if there were no values.

"In fact, power is not to enrich yourself, your family, or your friends,” he said.

He also expressed his gratitude to all Unity Government machinery, especially since both Deputy Prime Ministers were struggling to encourage investors to invest in the country.

"Malaysia successfully reached quality digital investment from Amazon Web Services and started a high investment in our country, creating employment opportunities, with an investment for the current term of RM 5.5 billion.

“We also got Samsung, Hyundei, and more from Korea. Not to forget, a record of RM 170 billion in history from joint investment with China,” he said.

Anwar said this reflected the speed of doing business that have been outlined and set by the government so the country can emerge as an economic giant in the region.

The Tambun MP also expressed his gratitude towards Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Chairman Abang Johari Abang Openg for having done many extraordinary things in Sarawak.

"To Abang Joe, sometimes I am complacent; Sarawak is more ahead of the Federal Government.

"This shows to us that leaders who take an open attitude, not an arrogant one, raise the country," he added.
