MELAKA - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim wants the increase in teachers' allowances to be the government's focus in protecting their welfare.

He said the allowances would not be given out immediately; however, they will be decided after the country's income and revenue increase in the future.

"In providing reasonable wages and salaries to educators, the country must have sufficient additional funds.

"One of my priorities is to increase teachers and civil servants' allowances, but don't ask for it now; give it a little more time and opportunity," he said.

He said this at the 2023 52nd National Level Teachers Day Celebration held at the Melaka International Trade Centre in Ayer Keroh here on Tuesday.

Also present were Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

With the theme 'Teachers, the Catalyst of the Madani Generation" this year, two awards were also presented: the Tokoh Kepimpinan Pendidikan Kebangsaan 2023 and Anugerah Tokoh Guru Kebangsaan 2023 awards.
