KUALA LUMPUR - Discussing periods should not be considered a taboo among students, said Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

She said this is crucial to provide proper education to female students to address issues such as period poverty and the stigma surrounding menstruation.

"Proper education on periods should be provided to students, creating an environment where they don't have to feel worried or ashamed during their menstrual cycles.

"We need to create a conducive enviornment for female students to make them comfortable during period," she said after officiating a programme organised by Kotex Malaysia.

Nancy further stressed that its time for men to understand that menstruation is a natural part of human beings.

"Females do not need to whisper when asking for pads or feel ashamed of getting periods.

"Men should understand and think period as a norm which is a common thing in life," she said.

Commenting further, Nancy said education and awareness are crucial tools in dismantling the stigma surrounding menstruation.

"Period shouldn't be a taboo among students," she said.
