DAP wouldn't be able to pull Malay voters - survey

SHAH ALAM - A majority of social media users viewed that DAP would not be able to pull Malay.

Based on the survey on Sinar Harian's Instagram page, which was posted at 2pm on Sunday, 74 per cent out of 1,123 people who voted did not agree that DAP was able to garner Malay votes, while 14 per cent agreed and another eight per cent said they weren't sure.

About five per cent said that maybe DAP would be able to attract Malay votes.

Meanwhile, the poll posted on Twitter showed equal votes: 42 per cent of people thought that DAP would be able to attract people, and another 42 per cent did not think so.

Nine per cent disagreed, and seven per cent said they were not sure.

On the other hand, Facebook garnered various reactions in the survey.

Pendekar Dayak, a Facebook user, said nothing is impossible in this world if DAP can pull Malay voters.

"Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was said to have no chances of becoming prime minister; he would be sidelined as a prime minister, but now he is the prime minister. Everything is written down by Allah," he said.

"It's possible, especially since previously there was PKR, Amanah, and now Umno is included. It will be a great win in the 16th general election (GE16)," Facebook user Rizalman Saari said.

"Just wait and see for the state election results, all the ministers and political analysts’ questions will be answered, another user, Kapten Adudu said.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan on Friday urged Umno voters in the six states facing elections to vote for DAP candidates in their respective areas for the sake of the stability of the unity government.

He explained that the action is justified in accordance with party discipline in the unity government.

Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi previously admitted it was difficult to change the ‘beliefs’ of supporters to accept DAP’s presence in the party as allies in the unity government today, but it was not impossible.

He said the issue was due to the negative perceptions that existed since 22 years ago under the previous leadership during administration.
