SHAH ALAM - The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a forecast indicating that the northern states of the Peninsular and the western region of Sabah, including their respective waters will experience strong winds and heavy rainfall from Wednesday until May 31.

MetMalaysia said the forecast is based on weather analysis models which have identified the intensification of westerly winds in the country as a result of Typhoon Mawar.

“Typhoon Mawar is currently at the western Pacific Ocean and was expected to move northwest towards north Philippines.

“This situation has the potential of forming a storm line that could bring heavy rain and strong winds in the northern states of the Peninsular and west of Sabah and its waters from May 24 to May 31,” it said.

MetMalaysia said strong winds and rough seas were expected to occur in the waters of the South China Sea, Phuket and North Malacca Straits from May 26 to June 1.
