School calendar to start in January in 2026 says, Education Minister

KUALA LUMPUR - The Education Ministry has announced that the school session will revert back to January from 2026 onwards.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the government have started efforts to regulate the academic calendar for the 2024/2025 school session starting in February 2025.

"The school calendar is planned to start in January 2026.

"So the request to start the school session in January will be fulfilled in 2026," he said.

She said this in response to a question from Aminolhuda Hassan (PH-Seri Gading) who asked the Education Ministry to state what measures have been taken to ensure that the school calendar is adhered to by all parties and in what year the school session will restart in January.

Previously, the Education Ministry was reported to have given assurances that the school calendar would start again in January, but that it required a certain period to be implemented.
