SHAH ALAM - Netflix will start imposing a fee of RM13 per month on users who do not reside in the account holder's household.

In a statement today, it said a Netflix account is intended solely for the use of one household.

Netflix further said it will begin sending emails to subscribers in Malaysia who are sharing their Netflix accounts with individuals outside of their household. I

In a sample email provided in the statement, Netflix told subscribers that they have the option to transfer their profile to those living in different households if they wish to share their Netflix account with them.

The statement further said that individuals outside the account holder's household who wish to access Netflix will need to become new subscribers and pay the monthly subscription fee themselves.

"You can share your Netflix account with someone who doesn't live with you for RM13 per month," it said.

Yesterday, the Straits Times reported that Netflix has extended its efforts to curb password sharing to the United States and over 100 other countries. The company has started notifying users that sharing their accounts for free beyond their households is not allowed.
