Police sergeant fined RM3,000 for accepting bribe

ALOR SETAR - A police sergeant has been fined RM3,000 by the Sessions Court, here, today after pleading guilty to accepting bribes amounting to RM1,500 three years ago.
The accused Muhamad Fitry Ismail, 32, made the confession after the charges were read out to him by a court interpreter before Judge Rohatul Akmar Abdullah.
According to the charge sheet, the accused was charged for committing the offence on Nov 18, 2020 at about 11.34pm outside the main gate of Kubang Pasu District Police Headquarters (IPD).
The accused allegedly received the money for himself without giving anything in return but the accused knew the gift was bribe related to his official work.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Deputy Public Prosecutor Rehab Abdul Shukur handled the prosecution according to Section 165 of the Penal Code (Act 574) while the accused was represented by lawyer Mohd. Khairul Hafizuddin Ramli.
Judge Rohatul also said decision was made after considering the public interest and the accused.
The court had ordered the fine to be paid immediately and to serve six months in prison if he fails to do so.
