KUALA LUMPUR - The decision of the Umno wing not to extend invitations to other parties for the upcoming 2023 Umno General Assembly (PAU) has sparked no controversy, according to Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

He clarified that there is no obligation to invite other parties to participate in the assembly.

"That's not an issue since it is not mandatory to invite others and the other parties have already been invited to PAU at the Central level. Therefore, it is unnecessary for Umno wings to extend separate invitations," he said.

Mohamed Khaled was commenting on the recent statement made by Umno Youth chief Muhammad Akmal Saleh, expressing his intention not to invite component parties of the unity government to the 2023 Umno Assembly for the Youth wing.

Akmal also added that the youth wing wishes to address internal matters before involving other parties.

However, Umno secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki opposed this statement and urged the Wanita, Youth, and Puteri wings to adhere to the practice followed at the Central level PAU by extending invitations to parties within the unity government.
