PETALING JAYA - Three motorcyclists died while another three were injured after being hit by a drunk driver under the flyover at Kilometer 19.6 of the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) earlier today.

Petaling Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said his department was alerted to the incident at 6.50am.

"According to preliminary investigations, the accident took place at 5.59am when a 26-year-old man driving a Honda City Hatchback from Kuala Lumpur to Cyberjaya lost control of his vehicle.

"The car skidded and collided with six motorcyclists, aged between 19 and 37, who were sheltering from the rain under the flyover," he said today.

Mohamad Fakhrudin said three motorcyclists were confirmed dead at the scene, while one was seriously injured, and two others received treatment at Sungai Buloh Hospital.

Following a test conducted on the driver, it was determined that his alcohol level exceeded the permissible limit.

The driver was subsequently detained and is being investigated under Section 44 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Appealing to any witnesses present at the scene, Mohamad Fakhrudin urged them to report to the nearest police station or contact the Traffic Investigation Officer, Inspector R Navalan, at 014-2536820 to provide valuable assistance in the ongoing investigation.
