PETALING JAYA - The car driver who crashed into six motorcyclists sheltering from the rain under a flyover at Kilometre 19.6 of the Klang Valley New Expressway (southbound) near Petaling Jaya yesterday has been released on police bail.

Petaling Jaya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said the 26-year-old man is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital due to the accident.

"The driver was arrested yesterday (Sunday) but has been granted police bail today because he suffered a broken shoulder from the accident and is currently receiving treatment in hospital," he said when contacted on Monday.

It was reported on Sunday that three motorcyclists died and another three were injured after being hit by a driver believed to be drunk.

The incident was reported to have occurred at 5.59am when the driver was travelling from the capital to Cyberjaya.

Mohamad Fakhrudin said the car skidded and collided with six motorcyclists, aged between 19 and 37, who were sheltering from the rain under the flyover.

He added that the three motorcyclists were confirmed dead at the scene, while one was seriously injured, and two others received treatment at Sungai Buloh Hospital.

Following a test conducted on the driver, it was determined that his alcohol level exceeded the permissible limit.

The case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Mohamad Fakhrudin appealed to any witness of the accident to report to the nearest police station or contact the Traffic Investigation Officer, Inspector R Navalan, at 014-2536820 to provide valuable assistance in the ongoing investigation.
