SHAH ALAM - The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a district police chief in Pahang on suspicion of accepting bribes amounting to over RM1 million from 2017 to 2022.

In a statement, MACC said the arrest was made due to the suspect's alleged involvement in protecting unlicensed entertainment centres and massage parlors within his jurisdiction.

"The 53-year-old senior police officer was arrested yesterday evening (Tuesday) on suspicion of receiving bribes amounting to over RM1 million from 2017 to 2022.

"These bribes are believed to have been received to protect unlicensed entertainment centres and massage parlors from any action or interference by the authorities," said the statement, today.

Meanwhile, MACC Pahang director, Hairuzam Amin, when contacted, confirmed the arrest involving the OCPD and investigations are being carried out under Section 16 (a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
